A 23-year-old man charged
with assaulting his minor girlfriend in the presence of their child was
convicted of assault and battery.
Jackson S. Taitingfong hit his girlfriend on Aug. 23, 2006, prosecutors
said.
Taitingfong, through Assistant Public Defender Adam Hardwicke, appeared
for a change of plea hearing on May 9 and entered a plea of guilty to
assault and battery.
The government was represented by Assistant Attorney General Rosemond
Santos.
Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona accepted the plea and sentenced Taitingfong
to one year of imprisonment, all suspended except for the first 72 hours.
Manglona gave Taitingfong credit for 24 hours of time served and ordered
him to report to the Department of Corrections on May 27 at 8 a.m. to
begin serving his unsuspended jail sentence. He will be released on May
29 at 8 a.m.
Taitingfong was placed on probation for a period of one year and was ordered
to pay a fine of $250, an assessment fee of $25 and a probation service
fee of $100.
Taitingfong will perform 40 hours of community work service at a minimum
rate of 10 hours per month.
He will submit a letter of apology to the victim and complete a course
of treatment including anger management at the Community Guidance Center.
His review hearing was set for Sept. 5 at 9 a.m.
