A GUAM Police Department sergeant is being held on $10,000 cash bail for allegedly pulling his GPD-issued gun and pointing it at family members.
Raymond Cruz Benavente, 47, of Dededo, will have a preliminary hearing on May 24 at 4 p.m. before Superior Court Judge Katherine A. Maraman.
The Superior Court charged Benavente with two counts of terrorizing as a third-degree felony with a special allegation of two counts of possession and use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony, two counts of aggravated assault as a third-degree felony with another special allegation of two counts of possession and use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony, two counts of family violence as a third-degree felony, two counts of reckless conduct as a misdemeanor, and harassment as a petty misdemeanor.
According to Superior Court magistrate documents, on May 13 at 1:15 p.m., GPD officers at the Dededo Precinct took a complaint filed by Dicky James “DJ” Benavente against Raymond Cruz Benavente. The man told police that Raymond Benavente and his mother Doris Taijeron argued and that argument later turned physical.
“When Raymond Cruz Benavente attempted to take a 12-year-old boy out of the house...Taijeron got in the car. Raymond Cruz Benavente grabbed Taijeron by the hair and pulled her from the car. Dicky James Benavente then saw Raymond Cruz Benavente release Taijeron. Raymond Cruz Benavente yelled for the 12-year-old boy to come with him,” the document read.
Dicky James Benavente tried to intervene and, at this point, Raymond Cruz Benavente “aimed his gun” at him and threatened to shoot him, according to the document.
Raymond Benavente went back to the house where he confronted Taijeron again. This time, Raymond Benavente pushed her, grabbed her by her throat and choked her.
Once again, Dicky James Benavente tried to stop the altercation but Raymond Benavente pulled out his gun and aimed it at Taijeron and Dicky James Benavente.
There were two minor children, the 12-year-old and a 15-year-old. They were on a neighbor’s home at the time of the altercation.
Raymond Benavente was located by police at a home at Birdan Langet Street in Dededo. Police, with permission from Raymond Benavente, examined his residence and he agreed to surrender his duty gun to the Hagatna Precinct Commander where he was assigned.
