Late entry Glenn Priscilla
collected two consecutive wins including against defending champion Paul
Salonga in last Sundays (May 12) second playing day and found himself
as the unfamiliar leader in the All-Filipino 9-ball billiards tournament
at the Q-Ball Club.
Priscilla now leads the four-man cast of Division C with a perfect 2-0
record by beating another new entry and rookie Filipino Billiards Club
of Palau (FBCP) member Danny Guillermo, 5-4.
Priscilla, who fell by the way side early in the semifinals of the first
edition of the tournament early this year, outshone Salonga after seven
frames with the final score of 5-2 and put the defending champion into
an awkward situation.
Salonga (1-1) needs to win against Guillermo next Sunday for a chance
to make it to the semifinal round.
Guillermo is carrying a 0-2 record after bowing out also last Sunday to
Alvin Soguilon (1-1), who also needs to win against Priscilla to at least
earn a playoff match with Salonga for the second slot. Salonga defeated
Soguilon in the first round the previous Sunday May 5.
Like Priscilla, Ver Soriano and Michael Escobido already barged into the
win column with their 2-0 records.
Escobido virtually ousted Andy Arana (0-2) in Division A.
Also in Division A, Jun Rodriguez (1-1), despite signing the card for
a win via forfeiture that could have given him an outright entry, agreed
to play against Roel Tabas, who came late in the evening. Tabas struggled
to win the game with a 5-3 decision.
Rodriguez needs to win against Escobido next Sunday to keep his hopes
alive while Tabas will meet Arana.
In Division B, Benjie Doma (1-1) and Frederick Bartolome (1-1) need to
win against their respective opponents to also have the chance.
