agent Jim Barry is this years Top Gun while the Commonwealth Port
Authority team defended its title as the fastest shooters in the 2007
Annual Shooting Competition yesterday.
There were 22 law enforcement officers from the Department of Public Safety,
CPA, the Division of Customs, the Department of Corrections, the U.S Marine
Corps and the U.S. Department of Defense who participated in the shooting
competition held at the Marpi shooting range.
Barry topped the individual category while the second and third place
went to CPAs Sgt. Melvin Manahane and Sgt. Joe Palacios.
There were eight entries in the team category and each had four members.
The 2006 defending champion, CPA, successfully defended its title.
The team was called CPA Spoc and its members were Sgts. Juan Rebuenog,
Melvin Manahane, Joe Palacios and Gary Cabrera.
The team of the Department of Corrections DOC Deadliest placed
second and was composed of CO3 Joe Santos, CO3 Joe Cohn, CO1 Manny Quitano
and CO1 Jon Decena.
PO1s Jess Castro, Mike Sablan, Bo Priest and Larry Ilo of CPA Team 8 won
third place.
The team category competition was based on accuracy and time. The first
placer clocked 2 minutes and 48 seconds while the second placer took 3
minutes and 35 seconds.
The third placer was behind the runner-up by only one second.
In the firearm instructors category, Ports Police Division Assistant Chief
Jordan Kosam won first place, DPS PO2 Jayson Tarkong placed second, and
Lt. Albert Palacios of Customs finished third.
In the female category, PO1 Raquel Ogumoro of DPS won by default as there
were no other participants.
The competition started at 9 a.m. and continued until 4 p.m.
In the 2006 Shooting competition, it was FBI agent Doug Smals who won
in the individual category while Kosam ranked second and Manahane third.
The annual shooting competition is held as part of the observance of CNMI
Police Week.
An award ceremony will be held on May 19.
