Budget bill still awaiting action

By Mar-Vic Cagurangan
Variety News Staff

THE revised budget Bill 74 is still awaiting Gov. Felix P. Camacho’s action. Tomorrow will be the 10th day since the bill was transmitted by the Legislature to the governor’s office but, as of yesterday, there was no word from the communications office on what the governor would do with the legislation.
If the governor doesn’t act on the bill, it will become law by default.
The Legislature deliberated on the budget for over eight weeks before finally passing the divisive Bill 74, which cuts the government budget by $18 million and pegs the 2007 budget at $471 million.
Vice Speaker Eddie B. Calvo, R-Maite, last week called a public hearing on the 2008 budget but the administration failed to submit a budget proposal, prompting his finance committee to cancel the scheduled proceedings.
