Solomon has new police chief

HONIARA (Pacnews) — The Solomon Island government has appointed Fiji’s assistant police commissioner for operations, Jahir Khan, as the Pacific nation’s new police commissioner.
Khan will be sworn in by Solomon Islands Governor General Sir Nathaniel Waena.
Khan replaces Australian Shane Castle who was declared “persona non grata” by the Sogavare government last year for “interfering in local politics.”
The position of police commissioner was first offered to former Goldridge Security chief and senior Fijian police officer Romanu Tikotikoca who turned it down to take up the position of acting police commissioner in Fiji after the military takeover there.
