RONALD Sablan, former owner
of the defunct Pacific Gardenia Hotel, is the new administrator for the
Commonwealth Health Centers medical referral office.
Public Health Secretary Joseph Kevin Villagomez said Sablan has been on
the job for about three weeks.
According to Villagomez, a selection committee chose Sablan from among
the seven to eight applicants who expressed an interest in
the job.
He said the committee found Sablan qualified for the position.
The new administrator did not report for work yesterday, according to
one of his staff members, who said their boss was sick.
Sablan was among the owners of Sys Corp. which ran the Pacific Gardenia
Hotel.
He filed for bankruptcy in 2004, declaring a debt of $10 million which
was equal to the value of his companys total assets.
The Commonwealth Development Authority took possession of the hotel which
owed CDA over $2.4 million.
CDA filed a complaint in Superior Court after the hotel failed to pay
its loan.
Aside from being accused of mismanaging the assets of the hotel and Sunset
Bar & Grill, Sablan and his co-owners allegedly maintained separate
sets of accounting books and presented fictitious ones to CDA.
