Guam in state of mourning

By Mar-Vic Cagurangan
Variety News Staff

GOVERNOR Felix P. Camacho yesterday declared an island-wide state of mourning on Guam in honor of the late former Senator Paul J. Bordallo, who passed away Saturday.
The state of mourning stays until Bordallo’s internment on May 24.
“He was a shining example of unending dedication and love for his family and his people,” the governor stated in his proclamation. “His contributions, hard work and love for Guam and his family will always be remembered and appreciated.”
The Legislature will hold a state memorial service on May 23.
Bordallo, who was credited for the Chamorro Land Trust Act and for championing the rights of the indigenous people of Guam, succumbed to a lung disease that he had suffered from for several years. He was 76.
