OLEAI Elementary
School foiled a Kobleverville semis sweep in the 2006-2007 Elementary
School Fast-pitch Softball tournament as the former stunned the Lady Umangs
with an 11-6 victory yesterday at the Miguel Tan Ge Basa Pangelinan
Ballfield.
Oleai showed an impressive performance at the plate in the last three
innings to eliminate the favored Lady Umangs, who advanced to the playoffs
with an unbeaten record in the regular season.
The Lady Umangs were still up by a point, 5-4, after four complete innings
when a three-run fifth inning put Oleai in the drivers seat, 7-5.
Oleai kept the lead at the end of the sixth inning, 9-6, when it held
the Lady Umangs to a run at the bottom of the sixth.
Oleai scored two more runs at the top of the last inning to take a five-point
lead, 11-6.
The Lady Umangs failed to recover when their first three batters were
thrown out. Koblervilles first batter was beaten to first base,
the second batter flied out and the Oleai pitcher struck out the Lady
Umangs third batter to end the game.
With the win, Oleai will face San Vicente in the girls championship
match today at 5 p.m.
Oleai is still the underdog in the finals match, as it will meet the undefeated
Lady Canaries, who moved into the title game after a 9-4 victory over
Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School last Wednesday.
In the boys finals, it will be San Vicente against Kobverville.
The Umangs and the Canaries, who are undefeated in the boys division,
arranged their title duel after defeating William S. Reyes Elementary
School and Garapan Elementary School, respectively.
The Canaries pulled off a 17-11 victory over the Mallards last Wednesday.
The boys championship match is set for Monday.
