Mt. Carmel rules three events in high school canoe races

MOUNT Carmel School topped three events in the second week of competition in the Interscholastic Outrigger Canoe Championships last Saturday at Kilili Beach.
The Knights ruled the women’s 1500m and 500m races and the men’s 1500m event.
Four championship races were held last Saturday with Marianas High School foiling an Mt. Carmel sweep by winning the men’s 500m race.
In the women’s 1500m finals, the Lady Knights timed in at 10 minutes, 59.97 seconds, beating MHS and Kagman High School, which clocked 11:05.12 and 12:12.65, respectively.
The Dolphins bounced back in the men’s 500m event posting 3:01.44, .32 of a second ahead of second place Kagman I. Mt. Carmel finished third timing in at 3:06.44.
Mt. Carmel beat Kagman anew when the Lady Knights clocked 3:31.34 in the women’s 500m race. The Lady Dolphins finished the race in 3:29.30, while third placer Kagman High timed in at 3:42.20.
Mt. Carmel made it 3-for-4 when the Knights clocked 9:42.81 in the men’s 1500m race beating MHS (9:46.57) and Kagman II (10:02.27).
Preliminary and repechage races were also held last Saturday.
One adult preliminary race was also held last Saturday with Mau I ruling the 500m race with a time of 2:57.16, followed by Mau III (3:05.97), Mau IV (3:11.57) and Mau II (3:16.46).
The CNMI Canoe Racing Association-organized tournament continues tomorrow and will hold its final races on May 26.
