17 matches to start action in DFS netfest

THE first part of the two-weekend competitions in the 2007 DFS Micronesian Tennis Championships will kick off today at the Pacific Islands Club hardcourt in San Antonio and at the American Memorial Park tennis courts.
Seventeen matches will be played tonight with the boys’ 9-and-under singles holding seven first round matches.
Vying for the boys’ 9-and-under title are Jordan Butcher, Tommy Choi, Michael Jones, Luther Lizama, Kui Lee, Kevin Yang, Maxi Braig, Steven Goodwin, Raj Ramnani, Dylan Ackerman, Aaron Lee, Quintin and Colin Ramsey, Cris Cajigan and Michael Grandinetti.
Matches in the boys’ 9-and-under singles will start as early as 3:30 p.m. at the PIC court.
The girls’ 13-and-under singles will also have a busy scheduled today with three games in the first round at AMP. The boys’ 13-and-under singles have only two games today.
The men’s 4.0 and women’s doubles will open with two games today. The men’s 4.0 doubles match today will feature father and son pairs with Richard and Bradley Brostrom taking on Joe Motto, Sr. and Jr.
The women’s doubles lone game today will have the tandem of Cleofe Santos/Thea Minor challenging the duo of Stephanie Jewell and Karen Buettner.
In the Mixed Open/4.0 doubles, Peter Loyola and Buettner face Santos and Lito Cabrera.
Two games in the mixed 2.0/2.0 doubles are set for today with Warwick Lowe/Kelly Butcher battling Letty Jones/Aguidan Jones and Lydia Tan/Gabrielle Colombo dueling Mieko and Kevin Carey.
Action in the girls’ 9-and-under, men’s and women’s 2.0/3.0 doubles will start tomorrow, while the men’s Open doubles and the men’s 40+ doubles will kick off on Sunday.
The second week of competition in the DFS nefest will feature adults’ singles and kids’ doubles events. Contests will run from May 25 to 28.
