By Trina A. San Agustin
Variety News Staff

GUAM roads claimed another life yesterday.
Shortly before 5 p.m. yesterday, Guam Fire Department emergency responders were called to an auto-pole accident in Piti.
GFD spokesperson Phyllis Blas said a 62-year-old woman was transported, with CPR en-route, to the Naval Regional Medical Center at the Naval Hospital in Agana Heights.
According to GPD Highway Patrol Sgt. J. Bagiforo, there was an individual who died as a result of the accident. It was not known as of press time whether the individual had been traveling alone.
“The accident took place in Piti by the basketball court. The vehicle was traveling south when it struck the utility pole,” Bagiforo said but could not comment further on the fatal accident as he had just arrived at the scene around 5:20 p.m. yesterday.
The investigation was about to commence that time.
Toddler critical
in near drowning
In other news, a three-year-old girl remained in critical condition in the Guam Memorial Hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and was listed as “very unstable” after a near drowning, a GMH nursing supervisor told Variety late yesterday afternoon.
The girl was taken to GMH after she “nearly drowned” at Matapang Beach in Tumon at around 8:30 a.m. yesterday, according to GFD spokesperson Phyllis Blas.
According to sources, the girl wandered into the water when her parents were unloading items from their vehicle for a day at the beach, when the incident happened.
Harmon stabbing
GFD’s Medic 12 and Allied Life Support 1 unit were dispatched to the access road between Adrian Sanchez Road and the old Harmon Flea Market in response to a report of a stabbing around 3:29 p.m. yesterday.
According to GFD’s Blas, a 40-year-old man received a stab wound to the neck and was transported to GMH for treatment of his injuries.
However, Variety contacted the GMH nursing supervisor and learned that there had been no individuals brought in, as of press time, to the GMH Emergency Room for treatment of a stab wound.
Crash victim
Meanwhile, a 51-year-old male motorcyclist remained on life support in the intensive care unit at GMH, according to the nursing supervisor.
The man received his injuries in an automobile/motorcycle accident on Marine Corps Drive in Anigua on Saturday at around 10:30 a.m. near Diamond Auto Parts.
There was no word from police whether there were any citations issued or if the driver and/or occupants of the automobile were injured as well.
