The Quality Distributors took
on the U19 National Team on Thursday night in the last game of the spring
season for the Budweiser Guam Mens Soccer League at GFA Harmon.
Both teams were familiar with each other as they split their two meetings
earlier this season with Quality winning the first 4-2 and U19 taking
the second 5-2.
The game would be one full of emotion but the Distributors would settle
things down scoring the first goal in the eighth minute of the game. The
goal would be scored by Francis Mantanona the first of two in the game.
U19 would respond in the 27th minute when Elias Merfalen scored to tie
the game at one.
Ten minutes later U19s Ronald Roberts would score to give the National
team the 2 1 lead going into the half. Out of the half the Distributors
would get another quick goal, this one scored by Marvin Mendoza in the
47th minute of the game.
The game would then shift back and forth with each team gaining then losing
momentum, but in the 61st minute of the game Mantanona would strike again
scoring his second goal of the game.
The Distributors had done a decent job of keeping the leagues leading
scorer, U19s Eric Sotto scoreless, throughout the game but he would
eventually shake the defense and score in the 69th minute.
The goal would bring Sottos total on the season to 17 goals. The
emotions would then spill over and the Distributors Randy Iriarte would
be ejected following a double yellow card. Playing shorthanded the Distributors
would hold on and end in a 3-3 tie.
The Distributors would be crowned League Champions as they came into the
game based on points alone. The Distributors would finish the season 6-2-2
and would be named League Champions. BGMSL will kick up again in mid-August.
