OLEAI Elementary School ruled the girls’ division of the 2006-2007 Elementary School Fast-pitch Softball tournament after stunning San Vicente Elementary School in the championship match last Friday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
The Turtles pulled off a 12-9 victory in the finals to complete their impressive performance in the annual tournament.
Oleai finished the preliminary round with a 2-1 record and advanced to the championship match after nailing an upset over Pool B leader and undefeated Koblerville Elementary School in the semis last Wednesday, 11-6.
San Vicente also reported to the finals match undefeated. The Lady Canaries swept all four games in the elimination round and downed Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School last Wednesday, 9-4, to move to the title match.
But the Lady Canaries’ streak ended last Friday with the Turtles controlling the game from start to finish and holding their ground in the last inning.
Both teams started strong with the Turtles taking a 5-4 lead after the first inning.
But SVES was shut out in the next three innings, while Oleai earned four runs to take a 9-4 lead.
The Lady Canaries never recovered from thereon, as Oleai played tough defense in the last three innings.
San Vicente hopes to save its pride today when it battles Koblerville in the boys’ finals.
The Umangs and the Canaries, who are undefeated in the boys’ division, set their title duel after defeating William S. Reyes Elementary School and Garapan Elementary School, respectively.
The Canaries notched 17-11 victory over the Mallards last Wednesday.
