A STATE funeral for former
Sen. Paul Bordallo will be held at the Legislature this morning.
Government officials and the Bordallo family will gather at the Legislature
Building for the memorial service that starts at 9:45 a.m.
Bordallo, who is credited with the Chamorro Land Trust Act and for advocating
the rights of the indigenous people of Guam, served in the 11th and 12th
Legislature. He succumbed to a lung disease that he had suffered from
for several years. He was 76.
Rep. Donna M. Christensen, D-Virgin Islands, extended condolences to the
people of Guam on behalf of the House of Representatives committee
on natural resources and subcommittee on insular affairs.
A distinguished, son of the soil, who was educated at
some of our countrys finest institutions, he dedicated his life
to his homeland and championed the rights of the Chamorro people,
Christensen said. He will be missed but he leaves behind a fine
legacy which will endure forever.
In honor of Bordallo, Gov. Felix P. Camacho has declared Guam in a state
of mourning.
