THE Guam Public School System kicked off the Third Annual School Counselors’ Conference at the Westin Resort in Tumon on Monday with nearly 100 school counselors and administrators in attendance. The four-day conference ends today.
The GPSS Division of Curriculum and Instruction, the University of Guam, and the Guam Association of School Counselors sponsored the four-day event.
James Conkwright and Candyce Conkwright of the Education Development Unlimited are on island conducting the training.
The conference highlights “the impact that counselors have on helping students achieve school success and plan for a career,” according to GPSS in a statement.
School administrators completed a workshop on Monday. Yesterday and today were set aside for elementary and secondary school counselors.
This year’s theme is the integration of character education and the American School Counselors’ Association model in the Comprehensive School Guidance Program.
“Every day, school counselors work with school counseling programs that address the personal/social, academic and career needs of all students. Their ultimate goal is to enable all students to achieve success in school and to become responsible and productive members of our society,” ASCA president Carolyn Stone said in a statement.
