A Palauan national who was convicted along with three males of raping two Chinese women in 2004 in the Commonwealth of Mariana Islands will serve his prison term here.
President Remengesau told reporters on Wednesday that the government requested CNMI to transfer Hadley Renguul in Palau to serve his remaining prison sentence at the Koror Jail.
"It was for humanitarian considerations," the president said.
The president said Renguul’s parents are old and that it was their request to see their son.
Renguul arrived in Palau Wednesday night. He was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment of gang rape.
The president also thanked CNMI Gov. Benigno Fitial for granting the request.
According to an article from the internet , a group of four males including Renguul, Jose Rabauliman, Sheldon Yano and Jake Ito raped two Chinese women at Suicide Cliff, Saipan in 1998.
The article said that the two victims who used to work at Caesar’s Sauna in Garapan, were heading toward their barracks after havingbreakfast at J’s Restaurant when four men grabbed them in front of the Horiguchi building and brought them to Suicide Cliff in the early morning of March 28, 1998.
It was learned that under the prison term agreement , Palau can make a formal request to Saipan to transfer Palauans convicted in CNMI.
