Supreme Court Chief Arthur
Ngiraklsong ruled that a run-off election for the Ngatpang State gubernatorial
seat will no longer be held.
According to the two-page order, ordering another election between the
very same candidates will not produce a winner.
The order said that the two parties earlier agreed that in the event that
no candidate will obtain the majority of the registered voters at the
May 9 polls , a run-off elections of the two top vote-getters will be
scheduled.
"Since Ngatpang Constitution provides for an acting governor in the
case of a vacancy, the government of Ngatpang should now proceed to take
charge of the rightful duties to the extent that can be done with an acting
governor," the order said.
The Election Commission for its part said that it will not be scheduling
another election for the Ngatpang State governor.
The court said that it is suspending the portion of the stipulation calling
for a run-off elecyopn until reasons are given to justify one.
In the recent May 9 election, Francesca Tong received 112 votes while
Demei Otobed received 69 votes.
Otong again failed to get the majority of the registered voters to win
the gubernatorial seat.
