FSM files criminal charges vs envoy, employee

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services) — The government of the Federated States of Micronesia has filed criminal charges against former Ambassador Jesse Marehalau and former FSM Embassy employee Enrico Calderon.
The government charged Marehalau and Calderon with criminal conspiracy and violations of the FSM Financial Management Regulations.
The charges were filed as a result of over 12 months of investigation by FSM government on the passport conspiracy at the FSM Embassy in Washington, D.C.
In March 2006, former FSM Embassy employee and Filipino national Enrico Calderon was arrested for and later charged by the United States government with conspiracy to import illegal aliens into the U.S. using illegally issued FSM passports.
The FSM government consequently launched an extensive investigation.
