THE Ol’Aces and the Cylones pulled off close victories in the SAIPANCELL/BANMI 25-and-under Basketball League, while the Sonics easily downed their foe last Sunday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
The Ol’Aces survived Preston Basa’s hot three-point shooting to eke out a 66-64 win over 670.
Basa had seven triples in the game, but Fred Pelisamen, Luis Iguel and Dexter Dillay joined forces to save the day for the Ol’Aces, who have yet to drop a game in five matches.
Pelisamen had 19 points, while Iguel and Dillay chipped in 15 and 14 markers, respectively.
The Ol’Aces had a hard time thwarting 670, as the former played with a depleted lineup having only six players for the game.
The match was tied at the end of each of the first three quarters.
Basa, who finished with 24 points, had three treys in the first quarter, which ended at 15-all.
Basa continued to hit from outside nailing two more triples, but Pelisamen was there to keep the Ol’Aces afloat hitting eight points and tie the game, 33-33.
Iguel nailed six of his total points in the third period, which for the third time ended in a deadlock, 58-all.
670 made only three fieldgoals in the crucial fourth quarter, while the Ol’Aces performed better making four baskets for a two-point win.
With the loss, 670 remained winless in five games.
The Cyclones pulled off a similar hard-earned triumph over the G-Stars, 80-74.
Henry Sablan paced the Cyclones with 27 points, including four of his team’s last six points in the closing seconds of the game.
Gus Palacios also helped the Cyclones cause, as he drilled eight of his 12 markers in the fourth canto.
The fourth period started with the Cyclones up by 10, 62-52, but Jericho Cruz and Joemar Tumaquip led the G-Stars’ comeback combining for nine of their team’s first 11 points in that canto.
But timely baskets from Palacios and Sablan helped the Cyclones secure their fifth win in six games.
The G-Stars dropped to a 2-2 record.
In the second game, the Sonics had an easier time against the Cholos notching a 102-89 victory.
The Sonics had two players scoring 20 or more points with Jon Lim firing 25 markers and Manuel Ajoste adding 30. Lerio Pagarao completed the Sonics deadly trio nailing 19 markers.
