(DPS) — On Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at about 4:15 a.m., the Department of Public Safety received a 911 call reporting a theft complaint at a 24-hour business establishment in Garapan. The caller added that suspect was still inside the establishment. Police were dispatched to the scene.

At about 4:20 a.m., a patrol unit arrived at the establishment and officers met with one of the employees who stated that the suspect just fled the scene and was hiding in the neighboring building. The witness told police that the suspect was wearing a black polo and khaki long pants. A few police officers went over to conduct a quick search as another officer questioned the witnesses. After a few minutes, officers found the suspect hiding in an alley way.

Witnesses in the establishment told police that the suspect walked into the establishment and headed straight for the alcohol section. The suspect then grabbed a bottle of vodka and began consuming it. The witnesses told the suspect that he could not do that. The suspect then grabbed a bag of chips and opened it before fleeing from the store.

When police questioned the suspect, he stated that he had walked around the village, looking for vehicles with unlocked doors. He said he was looking for money before going into the store.

The suspect, who is a minor, was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center before being transported to the Department of Corrections where he was booked and detained.
