Fiesta, Kanoa make it to playoff

THE Fiesta Rockers and Kanoa Resort advanced in the double-elimination playoffs in the 2016 Tan Holdings Intercompany Basketball League claiming their first win over their respective opponents last Friday at the Tan Siu Lin Sports Complex.


The Fiesta Rockers closed out the night handing Shirley’s Coffee Shop the 86-59 loss during the second game.
Fiesta played strong from start to finish pushing an early double digit lead. Point guard Elmer Esdrelon and Adonis Macoto opened up the first half putting up the first nine points while Paul Quizon came in later adding damage around the perimeter.

Fiesta dominated the boards leaving a little second chance buckets for Shirley’s to extend a 20-point lead by the end of the first half 42-22.
During the second half Shirley’s started to change the pace cutting the deficit by10 points. Jerome Pollisco drove through the weak side picking up two consecutive buckets while John Jugos attacked from a distance knocking down two three-pointers including an and-one play.
Despite Shirley’s offensive run, Fiesta kept control as Quizon and Jerald Rivera remained consistent firing a combined 14 points.
Shirely’s tried to keep up using the three-point line but Jugos suddenly lost his touch missing several shots giving Fiesta fast break opportunities to secure the win 77-51.
Kanoa Resort 86,
 JP Mambas 59
Kanoa Resort bagged the inevitable win during the curtain raiser, over JP Mambas.
Kanoa’s Matt Duenas went unstoppable firing four points in a row.
JP Mamba fought back using the inside man Tony Raho to their advantage, which forced Kanoa to commit the foul for a few easy points while Ferdie Dela Torre chipped from each unguarded spot but still fell short.
Douglas Schmidt, Danny Agulto and Ricky Bustillo came in from the bench shooting from all around the floor finishing off the first half strong to extend the distance 35-19.
JP Mamaba had a better second half performance as Dennis Chan joined in the offensive run to support Raho and Dela Torre but despite their efforts, Kanoa’s relentless attacks overwhelmed them, 86-59.
