THE prediction is that we have five months remaining before judgment day. So are you still not going to give back the current Fund members’ money?
In last Sunday’s reading, Jesus told His disciples to feed the people gathered there with them. His disciples said, “But we only have enough to feed a few. We need more bread and more fish.” Jesus told them to bring whatever they have and SHARE it.So, Lt. Governor and Speaker of the House, again we are asking you to give the active members their money back (their share) before you finish it.
During a public hearing here on Tinian, an active member told the senators that he called Social Security which told him there is no buy-back, but individuals can enroll by applying and contributing. This, Lt. Governor, is evidence that there is something you are not telling the active members. Several months ago, Fund Administrator Richard Villagomez said if the government would stop the employee contribution, the Fund would have a problem.
What is going on? Please Governor, Lt. Governor, members of the House and Senate — we asked Sen. Jovita Taimanao to ask all of you, including Richard Villagomez, along with a Social Security representative, to discuss this issue with us and, together, to try to find a solution. Not coming out to meet with us is questionable and causing more hatred toward the administration.
Globally, the world is having shortage of money and many countries are sharing the same suffering, but not one nation out there has the same issue that the CNMI has. I mean, we have enough to share if we divide it equally among us, but no one wants to share.
Take the advice from the Gospel this Sunday, and give back the active members’ money and collect all the leftover funds and save them for the retirees. You’re all worried about the remaining lifespan of the Retirement Fund, which is only two years, but you’re not worried that our world’s lifespan might be only five months?
So, people of the CNMI, this is not the time to be fighting, to be greedy, selfish, or hating. It is time to get our acts together and pray for each and everyone here on Earth that the prediction is not true, and that God will forgive our sins. We must pray for more years to come for our children.
Peace to all and may God have mercy on us all.
WINNIE ATALIGSan Jose, Tinian

You are right to an extent regarding pol-pot. One of the great curses on our country has been the willingness to compromise our values in the name of political expediency especially in terms of our foreign policy. And the karma on those mistakes I believe visit us in the form of blowback. Ours is an imperfect country, but I still believe better than most and we can be better if we citizens keep speaking out and acting in a spirit of true patriotism...Doing what is right and just in the spirit of liberty even when it goes against the grain of popular opinion. Your point on Pol Pot is one example and I agree!
Thanks for the book recommendation. I have read lots about Lenin, Stalin and Hitler, Mao would be a good read.
Also, there's a great book written by Mao's personal physician (who barely dodged the blame for his death) at Kiyu Library. Can't remember the title or author but it reads like an insider's view of CNMI politics.
These so-called "Leaders" people put their trust in have fumbled the foot ball my friend and like many others throughout the country...they got screwed by corrupt politicians and greedy bankers. There is no silver lining. Only a hard lesson to learn. Hopefully we as a voting citizenry will be more vigilant and start holding these people accountable. That and be more careful whom we chose when we vote!
"I mean, we have enough to share if we divide it equally among us, but no one wants to share." That has been tried before...It was called Communism and it never has gone well. Just ask the 100 million Mao, Stalin and Pol-Pot killed.
