Philippine government repatriates ailing Filipino worker

THE Philippine government’s Overseas Workers Welfare Administration helped repatriate a Filipino worker on Saipan who needed immediate off-island medical treatment, Honorary Philippine Consul to the CNMI Glicerio “Eli” Arago said.

OWWA also sent Dr. Amelito Adel to escort the worker, Rosa Arriola, on her flight to the Philippines last month, Arago added.

He said OWWA has been very accommodating to the needs of Filipino workers in the CNMI.

Last week, he added, OWWA representative Lilia de Guzman registered 600 members during the three-day consular mission at the multi-purpose center.

Arago said his office will continue to encourage OWWA to send a representative to Saipan once a year. OWWA provides insurance, healthcare and other benefits to its members.

The recent consular outreach conducted by Philippine Consul to Guam Mark Francis Hamoy also processed 268 passport-renewal applications, Arago said.

In addition, he and the consular team visited Alfonso S. Parongan who is detained at the Department of Corrections. Parongan has been charged with the murder of Josefina Pineda and the attempted murder of Anthony Barrit.

Arago’s staff volunteer Annamae Adaza said the consular outreach was successful and thanked Rose Soledad of IT&E, Kalayan Inc., Star Water, Marg’s Kitchen, JFAR Corporation and Filipino community volunteers for their support.

“We are very thankful for the sincerity and commitment of our volunteers who are always ready to serve,” Arago said.
