Judge denies ice defendant’s bail-modification motion

SUPERIOR Court Teresa Kim-Tenorio denied the bail-modification motion of one of the seven “ice” defendants apprehended by the CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force last month.

Judge Kim-Tenorio, ruling from the bench, said she is requiring Ronnie Malsol San Nicolas, 23, to post a property bond and 10 percent of the $100,000 cash bail imposed on him by Judge Kenneth Govendo.

During the bail-modification hearing on Tuesday afternoon, San Nicolas, through Assistant Public Defender Cindy Nesbit, asked the court to release him upon posting a property bond worth $300,000 that was appraised 10 years ago. No cash bail amount was mentioned by the defense counsel.

Judge Kim-Tenorio said she wants to see a property appraisal from at least two years ago, adding that the defendant must also come up with $10,000 representing 10 percent of the bail amount.

San Nicolas was charged by the Office of the Attorney General with possession and trafficking of crystal methamphetamine or ice. Police said San Nicolas was apprehended through a buy-bust operation and with the help of a cooperating source.

Assistant Attorney General Chester Hinds appeared for the government at the hearing on Tuesday.
