Senate confirms Professional Licensing Board nominee

THE Senate on Thursday unanimously confirmed the appointment of Gregorio Castro to the Professional Licensing Board.

Castro, who owns an architectural and engineering firm, will be representing Tinian on the board.

He said it’s “good to be back.” He used to be a board member, but his term expired two years ago. In September, he was re-appointed by the governor. Last month, the Senate conducted a public hearing on his appointment on Tinian.

In an interview, Castro said he is excited about working again with the other board members to ensure that the public’s interests are protected.

Castro is a former servicemember who also worked with the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. on Tinian.

After he retired, he was hired as project manager of SSFM in Honolulu, Hawaii.

When SSFM closed down its operation on Saipan, he bought the firm. He is now CEO and president of Pacific Engineering Group Services.

Castro said he intends to closely monitor businesses engaged in architectural design and engineering projects to make sure they comply with regulations.
