Hocog to feds: Please understand our predicament

ACTING Gov. Victor Hocog is hopeful that the U.S. government will hear the CNMI’s concerns and be more considerate of the commonwealth’s workforce needs.

“I hope the federal government, especially U.S. lawmakers, will understand our predicament and give us some kind of relief instead of reducing our workforce,” he said in an interview on Friday.

In a separate interview, casino commissioner Joseph Reyes is hoping that the islands’ economic recovery will be noticed by the U.S. government.

“As we move forward, I also hope that the United States government looks at us as a U.S. jurisdiction that only wants an opportunity to grow its own economy for the benefit of local residents and other U.S. citizens.”

He added, “We are limited in land mass and people, but we are not begging for U.S. taxpayers’ money — we’re just asking for an opportunity to help ourselves.”
