She told police that she and her husband had been arguing since Dec. 14 and that it escalated in the evening.

On Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at 11:28 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting on Anonas Drive in Kagman according to Jacqueline Rae Shepard, Department of Public Safety public information officer.

Witnesses told police they heard at least four gunshots as well as a female yelling for help.

Shepard said initial reports indicated that the victim was locked inside the residence with a gunshot wound to the leg while the suspect was on the road with a rifle. While driving to the scene, officers noticed a shirtless man standing under a street light on Anonas Drive with a rifle seemingly pointed in their direction, Shepard said.

After officers took cover, they were no longer able to pinpoint the suspect’s whereabouts, she added.

An ambulance was dispatched to the scene but was unable to gain access to the residence as the suspect had not yet been apprehended at the time, she said.

A short time later, across from the scene in a small concrete home, Camacho was taken into custody without incident, Shepard added.

Paramedics transported the victim to CHC for treatment at 12:03 a.m., Shepard said, adding that police are charging the suspect with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho set the bail at $500,000.

The case is still under investigation, DPS said.
