Mario Adriano arrested for copper theft

A 32-year-old man from Tinian was arrested after he was accused of stealing over a thousand dollars worth of copper drop-line belonging to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.

Mario Borja Adriano appeared in Superior Court on Tuesday to answer the charges of theft, criminal mischief, and criminal trespass.

Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $20,000 cash bail on Adriano who was represented by Assistant Public Defender Nancy Dominski. Assistant Attorney General Frances Demapan appeared for the government.

Judge Camacho ordered Adriano to return to court on Jan. 25 for a preliminary hearing, and on Jan. 29 for arraignment.

According to the police, a CUC employee reported CUC service drop-lines missing from some abandoned residences.

The employee told police that during a routine check on residential weather heads, he noticed that a quantity of CUC service drop-line was missing, a total of 100 feet.

A recycling employee identified Adriano as the person who sold copper drop-line to him, and that they had a video recording of the transaction.

The CUC employee who reported the theft said the copper wire found at the recycling center belonged to CUC, adding that only CUC had such wire.
