PSS to install security cameras at middle, high schools

THE Public School System will soon install surveillance cameras at Tanapag Middle School, Marianas High School, Saipan Southern High School, and the junior and senior high schools in Tinian and Rota.

Acting Education Commissioner Glenn Muna said the plan, which was initiated by former Commissioner Cynthia Deleon Guerrero, will help prevent school burglaries.

He said they will also install security cameras at elementary schools in the next school year.

According to Jesse Tenorio, PSS director for infrastructure technology, they prioritized the middle and high schools to protect their equipment.

“We don’t want to stall student learning just because somebody came in and destroyed or stole their laptops.

“We are also starting to see a lot of iPads that federal grants allow us to purchase. We have to protect our equipment and the investments we make to improve student learning,” Tenorio added.
