Saipan mayor officiates at 7 weddings on Valentine’s Day

SEVEN couples tied the knot on Valentine’s Day at the Saipan mayor’s office.

One of the couples was Shae Stovell and Sheryle Reyes who had been engaged for almost two years.

Stovell is from Wisconsin while Reyes is from Paranaque, Metro Manila, the Philippines. They met at a restaurant where Reyes works.

Their wedding ceremony, which was officiated at by Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, was witnessed by family and friends.

The mayor’s wedding coordinator, Bobby Yamada, said many couples wish to be married on Valentine’s Day.

The couples exchanged vows in the mayor’s conference room which was decorated with Valentine’s Day symbols.

The mayor’s human resource manager, Larissa Flores, said they wanted a pleasant ambiance for the couples on their special day.

Yamada said among those who got married were two same-sex couples from China. One of the couples was Jiang Mei, 28 a marketing manager, and Liu Linlin, 24, a graphic designer. They arrived on Tuesday and will be spending their honeymoon here until Feb. 25.
