Saipan Rotarians to attend Japan conference

ROTARY Club of Saipan president-elect Greg Borja will lead an island delegation to the Pacific Basin Group meeting in Japan.

The meeting will be held from Feb. 26 to 28 as part of the Rotary International District Conference in Tokyo.

Rotarians Ken Kato and Dennis Yoshimoto will join Borja.

A member of the Pacific Basin Group, the Rotary Club of Saipan with 44 members meets weekly at the Hyatt’s Giovanni’s Restaurant every Tuesday.

Also attending the Tokyo meeting are Rotarians from Guam, Palau, Chuuk and Pohnpei.

“We get together and share what we’ve been doing and exchange ideas,” Borja told Variety, referring to the district conference.

The Saipan delegation will be showing a five-minute video about its activities since the start of the Rotary calendar year in July, including the tree-planting event at the Kagman Community Family Park.

The president of the Rotary International Club has been encouraging Rotarians to plant trees, Borja said.

“At the start of the Rotarian calendar year on July 1 we planted 39 trees at the park,” he added.

He said they will discuss their community services, participation in the Liberation Day parade, fundraisers, including the Las Vegas Night, and the visit of the district governor.
