Mayor’s office now ready for spay, neuter treatments

THE five-day pet treatment program is now ready for March 19 to 23 as the Saipan mayor’s office continues to seek volunteers and support from the community.

The Spay Neuter Network team from Kaufman, Texas will arrive on March 18, and a day after they will start the spay and neuter services for dogs and cats, special assistant to the mayor Henry Hofschneider said.

He said the treatment program will be held at Garapan Central Park.

The mayor’s office will subsidize $45 for the cost so it will only be charging $25 instead of the actual fee of $70, he said.

Although, they have been getting financial pledges and support, they will continue to seek assistance especially from the business sector to defray the cost for supplies needed during the duration of the program, he said.

Recently, he said they received $500 from Bridge Capital LLC, $50 from Vapr Spot and Louis Rodgers, and $25,000 from Dave Hood and Coldwell Solar CNMI.

The mayor’s office thanked Fiesta Resort & Spa and hotel manager Wendy Herring for providing the medical team with free rooms, Hertz Car Rental for free transportation, and Coca Cola Micronesia for the banners.

Dog control program manager Spencer Merchadesch said some pet owners have already secured reservations for the treatment program.

He said they are aiming at accomplishing 100 spay and neuter procedures for cat and dogs every day.

At present, Merchadesh said they have 56 dogs at the animal shelter at the Department of Lands and Natural Resources compound at As Perdito.

They will bring some of the dogs for adoption but prospective owners will pay for the treatment during the clinic period, he said.

“We are still looking for volunteers to assist our medical team,” he said.
