Saipan mayor supports closer ties with South Korea

MAYOR David M. Apatang assured the Korean community on Saipan that the municipal government will help promote closer cultural ties between the island and the Asian country.

Apatang met with Lee Min-sup, former South Korean minister of culture, sports and tourism, at the recent launch of the Saipan Korea Cultural Center at the P&A Corp. compound in San Antonio.

Lee Min-sup was accompanied by P&A Corp. president Hong-Kyun Kim and Sun Yong Lee, editor-in-chief of Korea News.

“Our office is ready to assist you,” the mayor said, as he also informed the Korean delegation about the upcoming Liberation festivities on island. He invited Korean performers to join the Fourth of July parade.

Visiting Saipan for the first time, Lee Min-sup said he admires the island’s beauty, especially the pristine beaches.

He said the South Korean government looks forward to holding further discussions with the municipality of Saipan regarding projects what will benefit the Korean community and local residents.
