Ol’ Aces win Men’s League opener with an ease

THE Ol’Aces had an outstanding opening performance to the 2018 Men’s/Women’s Islander Wide League outscoring the Saints, 144-58 last Monday held at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.

The Ol’ Aces’ full bench and energy gave them the upper hand as the Saints were short of players.

The Ol’ Aces moved the ball with finesse with Preston Basa orchestrating their plays feeding Douglas Schmidt and Marvin Rabauliman while adding points to the scoreboard as well with seven points.

When the starters needed a breather, the second string took their place with no struggle as their persistency on the defensive end kept them in control.

The Saints could barely get the ball past half court but Leo Galarse shed some light to keep them out of the dark, 33-11.

The Ol’ Aces continued to flourish at the second and third quarter firing at will with every possession. The younger players Coby Santos, Aiferson Atan along with Rabualiman shot the lights out while Greg Sablan and Dan Barcinas covered up the rest to extend a whopping 104-35 spread.

Saints’ Luizi Reyes, Juan Diaz and Galarse tried their best to keep the action going despite the overwhelming control of Ol’ Aces but eventually settled for defeat as the gap was just too much, 144-58.

Ol’ Aces 65, Fiesta 51

The women of the Ol’ Aces also shared the victory as they finished strong against Fiesta Resort at the debut of the Women’s League, 65-51.

As soon as Ol’Aces took control they never looked back. The work of Eleina Santos and Aliiyah Fernandez was enough to seize control as they combined for 19 points for the 29-23 lead by the end of the first half.

Fiesta’s Lalaine Pagarao and Nana Watanabe were the only two players that stayed consistent throughout the second half hoping to pull a comeback but remained behind as they could not hold down Ol’Aces’ offense taking the win 65-51.
