Guam hosts Micronesia fair

“WE are Micronesia” was the theme of the 30th Annual Guam Micronesia Island Fair which took place on May 2-6, 2018 at the Paseo de Susana.

Tanya Salas, who represented the CNMI, said the fair united eight delegations that celebrated their unique stories: Pohnpei, Chuuk, Kosrae, Yap, the Marshall Islands, the CNMI, Palau and Guam. Okayama City, Japan was also represented by a delegation of one.

Salas, who is originally from the FSM, said the Micronesian islands remain deeply connected by their love of culture, history, tradition and the ocean that touches their shores.

She added, “It’s always an honor to be a part of this annual festival and to experience, enjoy and appreciate all the different cultures of Micronesia. I am already looking forward to next year’s event.”

Also representing the CNMI was Ana McMahon who handed  a gift from the commonwealth to Guam Gov. Eddie Calvo to show appreciation for Guam’s annual hosting of the event.

The fair highlighted various vendors as well as musical and cultural performers.

These included Tano and Aniten, Famalo'an, Joe Garrido, Maseha Håf, Stranded in Paradise, SKIP Entertainment, Joe Limes, Unity Dance, Joe Guam, Kids from Chuuk, Micro Nation, D.U.B., Inetnon Gef' På'go, Modan Guam by Halia & Jade and Haute Chaud Atelier, Guma' Råsan Åcho' Latte, Kendall Titiml and Kelau Remeliik (Palau), Ryan and Martin, Coco and the Way Cool Heroes, Radiants, Irensian Taotao Tano', Tao Tao Lågu, and Inetnon Gef' På'go Musicians.
