CUC: 465 prepaid meters installed since March

SINCE March 2017, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. has installed 465 Nighthawk prepaid meters, CUC Executive Director Gary Camacho said.

Of this number, 415 were installed for government accounts and 50 for residential accounts, he added.

CUC, however, still has to install 2,088 Nighthawk prepaid meters, he said.

According to Camacho, CUC purchased 2,550 prepaid meters of which 200 will be sent to Rota and another 200 to Tinian.

He said these web-based, electric prepaid meters will allow CUC customers to go online and  purchase or pay for energy before they use it.

There are no disconnection or re-connection fees when the customer’s funds run out; no more electric bills; no delinquent or disconnection notices or unexpected charges, Camacho said.

As for the net-metering program, he said three residential customers connected to the power grid in February which resulted in 19 kilowatts of solar energy added to CUC’s power grid.

He said a total of 376 commercial and residential net-metering customers are now connected to the CUC power grid.
