Weston Deleon Guerrero, Marian Aldan-Pierce reappointed to CUC, MVA boards

GOVERNOR Ralph D.L.G. Torres reappointed Weston Deleon Guerrero and Marian Aldan-Pierce as board members of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and the Marianas Visitors Authority, respectively.

The Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Governmental Investigations chaired by Sen. Frank Cruz held a public hearing on the two nominees Tuesday.

Deleon Guerrero’s public hearing was held in the afternoon while that for Aldan-Pierce was held in the morning.

Deleon Guerrero’s first term expired on May 29, but he was re-appointed prior to its expiration.

In an interview, he said the first eight months spent working as a CUC board member had been tough, as he had to deal with a lot of issues.

“If I’m re-confirmed, I will have the opportunity to work on these issues for four years. CUC is a very complex agency, and we’re always learning something new — there is always room for improvement, to do better,” he said.

The senators said Deleon Guerrero and Aldan-Pierce have done a good job and have earned the governor’s trust and confidence.

During the public hearing, the senators asked Deleon  Guerrero to help ensure that all residents of the three main islands will get affordable and reliable water, power and sewer services.

Daisy Demapan of the governor’s office told the senators that Aldan-Pierce, the T Galleria DFS general manager, has made valuable contributions to the community as a business executive and an MVA board member, and will continue to be an asset to the MVA board.

Aldan-Pierce’s term ended in Sept. 2017.
