New law creates directory for new hires

GOVERNOR Ralph D.L.G. Torres on Thursday signed into law a measure establishing a state directory for new hires in the Commonwealth.

Senate Bill 20-64, which was introduced by Senate President Arnold I. Palacios, is now Public Law 20-60.

The governor said the new law recognizes the importance of an employer’s role in the child-support program.

“It will establish an automated directory which shall contain required information by employers on each newly hired employee. This will give employers access to important location and income information related to custodial and non-custodial parents. Employers will assist the Child Support Enforcement Office in the location of custodial and non-custodial parents and in setting reasonable child-support obligations. The reporting of new hires by employers will provide useful information to the Child Support Enforcement Office to more effectively enforce the child-support obligation of non-custodial parents,” Torres said.
