SDA officials break ground on new church project in Kagman

THE Seventh-day Adventist Church on Saipan is building a “worship and community center” in Kagman.

On Monday, SDA Guam Micronesia Mission president Ken Norton led the groundbreaking ceremony at the project site located on Gaogao Ct. across from the Kagman commercial complex.

“We’re very excited because we will be able to have a worship and community center right here in Kagman,” Norton said.

He said it is the church’s “greatest desire to bless this community.” He added, “We want to be able to have a place where people can feel comfortable coming to. We want to provide services that are needed in Kagman.”

Also participating in the groundbreaking ceremony were Saipan SDA Clinic officials led by Dr. Ken Pierson.

Church head elder Eric Mahinay said they converted a house across from  Laolao Bay Golf Resort into their first church in Kagman in 2006.

The church was relocated to the Kagman commercial complex, but it closed in 2013, he said.

He said they established a temporary church at the same site where they now plan to build a new church.

Elder Ray Aldan said they obtained a building permit on June 8 from the Department of Public Works.

He said they also obtained a notice of authorization for earthmoving and erosion control from the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality.

Mahinay said construction will commence immediately “and we are hoping to finish the project this year.”
