Saipan Unity Lions Club donates 2 TV sets to San Jose Church

THE Saipan Unity Lions Club on Friday donated two 50” flat-screen TV sets to the San Jose Church in Oleai.

This was the second donation made by the club to the parish church. In January, the Lions, through the church, distributed school supplies to village children.

Club secretary Ruth Torrecampo said their latest donation was funded by the proceeds from the sixth annual Marianas Next Top Model pageant held in March.

She said the pageant, which was directed and choreographed by Sharmaine Casquero, aims to raise environmental awareness among teens.

Torrescampo said their recent donation was also a way of expressing their appreciation to the sponsors and donors of the pageant.

San Jose Parish Priest Charlie Borja said the donation was very timely since their church was the only one on Saipan that didn’t have a TV set.

He said their new TV sets will be used to project songs and messages during church services and other church events.

“On behalf of the parish, I am very thankful for the generosity of the club, and I would encourage the group and other parishioners to continue extending their kindness,” he said. “This donation is a very welcome gesture from the community. And it’s a great blessing for us.”
