CUC: 72% of water produced considered non-revenue

THE Commonwealth Utilities Corp. reported that in May, over 98 million gallons of water were  billed to various customers.

Residential usage totaled 59,150,999 gallons; commercial usage, 30,928,498 gallons; and government usage, 8,025,617 gallons.

CUC’s total water production for May was 346,728,899 gallons of which 72  percent was considered non-revenue water.

In a February report, CUC said its non-revenue water went up to 64.1 percent in October-November 2017 from 59.94 percent in previous months. The increase was attributed to the continued improvement of the water system which has resulted in some aging waterlines leaking, CUC said.

In his recent report, CUC acting Executive Director William Gilmore said CUC’s water revenue in May from residential customers reached $406,505.72; from commercial customers, $226,202.08; and from government customers, $363,134.95.

CUC supplied water to 7,114 residential customers, 1,094 commercial customers, and 211 government customers in May.

In the same period, Gilmore said they had 1,831 pending work orders of which 281 were completed in May.

Gilmore also reported that there were 240 reported leaks in May and 102 were repaired during the same period.

There were no reported water-theft incidents in May, he added.

For wastewater,  total discharge in May reached 65,957,235 gallons of which 16,582,761 was from residential customers; 44,051,927 from commercial; and 5,322,547 from government.

Gilmore said wastewater services have 1,853 residential customers; 720, commercial; and 135, government.

He said they collected a total of $488,370.78 in revenue from wastewater services in May: $55,256.45 from residential customers; $145,732.49 from commercial customers; and $287,381.84 from the government.
