Annamae Adaza is new Lions Club International Region 2 District 204 head

THE Lions Clubs International Region 2 District 204 installed its 2018-2019 officers on Saturday.

The induction ceremony led by District Gov. Lion Daniel Cruz was held in the Azucena Hall at the Fiesta Resort & Spa.

Annamae Adaza, Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club president, was inducted as Region 2 chairperson. She succeeded Ladyvir Canape.

The other new officers are Alfredo “Al” Cabael of Saipan Alliance Lions Club as Region 2,  Zone 1 chairperson; Agripino “Argie” Buensalido of Saipan Unity Lions Club as Region 2, Zone 2 chairperson; Anita “Bhiya” Canadalla of Saipan Alliance Lions Club as Region 2 assistant district secretary; Yolanda “Yho” Villavicencio of Saipan Unity Lions Club as Region 2 assistant district treasurer; and Mario C. Mayuga of Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club as Region 2 assistant district public relations officer.

Guillermo “Jhun” Canape Jr. of Saipan Marianas Lions Club is this year’s Region 2 sergeant-at-arms, but he was unable to attend the ceremony.

Also on Saturday, the newly formed Saipan Natibu Lions Club headed by Jessica Taylor and the Saipan Centennial Lions Club headed by Arceli Lizama were introduced to the islands’ other Lions.

In his message, District Gov. Lion Daniel Cruz encouraged club members to continue their programs in the Lions’ five areas of service: relieving hunger, engaging youth, protecting the environment, sharing the vision, and diabetes awareness.

“I am thankful to all of you for your willingness to serve as District 2 officers. We should be willing to help when there’s a need,” he told the newly inducted officers.

He also encouraged club members to continue advancing the Lions’ humanitarian agenda in the community.

With Cruz were District Cabinet Secretary Rose Marie Matsunaga and Kuo Ying Cruz.

In her remarks, Region 2’s newly installed chairperson Annamae Adaza said she had second thoughts about accepting the position because it involves “huge tasks.”

“But I accepted the challenge,” she said, adding that she will abide by the club’s motto: “We Serve.”

She said Lions can work and accomplish a lot of things for the community.

“I am hopeful that all clubs here will be united, especially when we implement community projects. More clubs getting involved in a project will have a bigger impact on the community,” Adaza added.

Among the special guests were Honorary Philippine Consul Glicerio “Eli” Arago.

Alfredo “Al” Cabael led the invocation while Len Angello and Flor Miranda led the singing of the Lion’s Song.

Yolanda “Yho” Villavicencio led the reading of the Code of Ethics while Joe Digno led the reading of the Lions Clubs Objectives.

Mario Mayuga was master of ceremonies.
