Husband arrested for domestic violence

MIZANUR Rahman was arrested on Monday after his wife accused him of hurting her in their San Antonio home.

Superior Court Judge Kenneth Govendo imposed a $5,000 bail on Rahman at a bail hearing at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The defendant represented himself while Assistant Attorney General Robert Charles Lee appeared for the government.

After the hearing, Rahman, 46, was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections and was ordered not to have direct contact with the victim or their three children.

Department of Public Safety Detective David Hosono II stated that he responded to an anonymous tip that Rahman had been physically abusing his 36-year-old wife.

When he arrived at the scene, Hosono observed that the victim had scratches below her left eye.

The victim told the detective that when she came home from work, her husband asked her to lie down with him on the carpet in the living room. But then, he began accusing her of “fooling around” with another man.

According to the wife, he asked if they could have sex, but she said no because she was tired. She said her husband kept on caressing her. When she asked him to stop, she said Rahman got mad and bit her in the belly. He also squeezed and pulled her cheek causing scratches on her face.

She pushed him away and as he continued accusing her of cheating on him, their children woke up.

She told police that her husband had also been “physical” in the past, but she could no longer remember how many times. She feared that he might hurt her again and their children.

Judge Govendo set the preliminary hearing for July 26, at 1:30 p.m., and the arraignment for July 30 at 9 a.m.
