In an interview during the independent/Democrat coalition roadside-waving and rally at the Civic Center on Saturday, Babauta said the message that is resonating “all the way to the U.S. is the need for change, and more accountability and transparency in the government.”

This is coming from the people themselves, said Babauta whose running-mate is former Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan, Ed.D.

He said those who are to meet with him in the U.S. are  people from all walks of life, young and old.

“Whether they are of Filipino descent and other NMI people of different ethnic backgrounds —  they want to see change,” he added.

“The CNMI people who are away from the CNMI sought better job opportunities that they couldn’t find here on island. I ran into many who graduated from college, and they are disappointed that despite having a degree they couldn’t find a meaningful job in the CNMI that allows them to be able to support their families and put food on the table,” Babauta said, adding that he was “overwhelmed” by the huge crowd of family members and other supporters who joined the Independent/Democrat candidates on Saturday.

With the Babauta-Sablan team were U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan, who is seeking re-election, former Gov. Carlos S. Camacho, Sen. Paul A. Manglona, former Lt. Gov. Jesse C. Borja, former Sens. Juanpan T. Guerrero, Herman Rogolofoi Guerrero, David M. Cing and Henry San Nicolas.

Also at the rally were Precinct 1 Rep. Edwin Propst, House candidates Lino Tenorio, Franklin Babauta, Joe Flores, Tina Sablan, Sheila Babauta, Louie Tilipao, David Castro Sablan, senatorial candidates Heinz Sablan Hofschneider, Edith Deleon Guerrero and Saipan mayoral candidate Ramon “RB” Blas Camacho.
