An ‘admirable, impressive’ administration

FORMER Gov. Benigno R. Fitial on Sunday reiterated his support for the ticket of  Gov. Ralph D.L.G. Torres and running-mate Senate President Arnold I. Palacios, saying that the administration is performing admirably and impressively.

Fitial was among the supporters who attended the NMI Republican Party rally in Susupe on Sunday that was preceded by a motorcade and road-side waiving activity.

In an interview, Fitial said it is undeniable that Governor Torres has done a good job in revitalizing the CNMI economy.

“I was the chairman of the party for a long, long time since it was known as the Territorial Party. This is the party under whose banner many Carolinians, if not all, I can say, 90 percent, became public servants — we served the community under the Republican party,” the CNMI’s first Carolinian governor said.

“I am throwing my support to the governor, of course, for the obvious reason that I am a Republican in heart and mind, but also because I believe in him. I think I am in a position to make comparisons because when I was governor, we encountered the biggest global economic crisis, but the economy has now rebounded and that is because of the hard work of the present administration. This administration under the leadership of Governor Torres is admirable and extremely impressive.”

Governor Torres, who turned 39 last week, said his birthday wish is for the entire GOP slate to win on Nov. 6, 2018.

He said he was overwhelmed to see so many people supporting the GOP candidates.

“I am very blessed to be part of such good family, good friends and good constituents,” he added. “So blessed to have the support of all of these people. I am grateful and  thank everyone, especially the decorators, for working very hard to finish everything in time for today’s rally…. People came out and decorated their cars just for today’s rally so I am truly blessed. I just wish that everybody continues to respect each other. That’s fundamental, love and respect.”

Torres’s running-mate, Senate President Arnold I. Palacios, said the support and turnout were overwhelming.

“We still have over two months to go, so we will push hard, and will remain positive,” he added.

Republican  delegate candidate Angel A. Demapan said Sunday’s rally was a celebration of progress and their party’s commitment to continue what they have started.

“Today’s rally manifests the people’s outpouring of support and celebration of progress which is the work that we have undertaken, so today is the celebration of what we have delivered and a re-affirmation of our commitment to delivering for our people,” he said.
