Ice defendant to plead guilty

EUGENE Blas Repeki Jr., who was charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, will plead guilty, according to his court-appointed lawyer, Steven Pixley.

At a pre-trial conference hearing on Thursday in federal court, Pixley told Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona that the defense will file the motion for a change of plea on Friday.

Judge Manglona said she will entertain a change of plea, “but if that does not go through Repeki should be prepared to go to trial.”

At the hearing Assistant U.S. Attorney Garth R. Backe appeared for the federal government.

Repeki and co-defendant  Vincent David Cabrera appeared in court in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. After the hearing, Repeki and Cabrera were remanded to custody.

Repeki, Cabrera, Rick Urumelog Omar Jr. and Sidney Capelle Kani were accused of using the “shake and bake” method in manufacturing “ice.”

Omar and Kani have already pled guilty to the charge.

With Repeki also pleading guilty, Cabrera will be the only remaining defendant. The court previously set the jury trial for Oct. 2, 2018 at 10 a.m.
