House panel shelves casino GRT bill

THE House Committee on Gaming has shelved a Senate measure that proposes to clarify that the casino gross revenue tax payments are separate from the general fund.

The committee chairman, Rep. Joseph Deleon Guerrero, said Senate Bill 20-42, which was introduced by Senate President Arnold Palacios, is no longer necessary as they have already acted on another measure which has the same intent.

Deleon Guerrero said his committee also tabled two other bills for further discussion: House Bill 20-38, which will transfer to the Commonwealth Casino Commission the licensing and regulatory functions of the Department of Finance with respect to poker, pachinko and electronic gaming machines; and Senate Bill 20-87 which will increase the number of Commonwealth Casino Commission members to seven from five.

H.B. 20-38 was introduced by Deleon Guerrero while S.B. 20-87 was introduced by Sen. Justo Quitugua.
