Saipan Young Professionals launches second annual Toys for Tots campaign

THE Saipan Young Professionals or SYP aims to collect more than 4,000 Christmas toys in its second annual Toys for Tots project launched on Oct. 3.

Shayne Villanueva, co-chair for SYP, said they are looking for partners for the Toys for Tots project whose goal is to “deliver, through  new Christmas toys, a message of hope and joy [to the children] that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive and patriotic citizens.”

SYP is a committee of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce.

In his presentation during the recent chamber general membership meeting at Fiesta Resort & Spa, Villanueva said they were able to collect more than 2,000 toys and raise more than $2,000 in cash for children last year.

This year, Saipan Chamber of Commerce administrator and coordinator Mercilynn Kaneshi Palec said they hope to collect more toys and raise more funds.

The toys will will go to charity organizations and some government agencies: Karidat, Guma Esperansa, the Salvation Army, the Maternal Child Health Bureau and the Division of Youth Services. The cash will be used to buy new toys that will be donated to the same organizations and agencies.

Local businesses that want to join the Toys for Tots campaign may call 234-7150 or email administrator@saipanchamber.com.
