Mariana Regional Fusion Center continues to monitor reported phone scams

(Press Release) — The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense along with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center continue to monitor reports of local telephone numbers receiving calls from unusual or unexpected numbers where the phone rings only once thus prompting a call back.

A snapshot circulating on social media and chat groups reports local telephone numbers receiving one-ring calls from a seemingly local telephone number with a 671 area code. It is important to remember that phone numbers can be “spoofed,” which means imitated so it seems like a local number.

While there is no validity to the claim that the scam has the capability to copy your contact list or bank details, the community is reminded to remain vigilant and continue to follow these tips:

Residents are advised to report any suspicious activity or social media posts relating to the subject to the MRFC online at or email or call (671) 475-0400, following the Department of Homeland Security’s campaign, “If You See Something, Say Something.”
